Here’s what you need to know about the awards:

  • Up to Two $1000 Scholarships: Available to active union members or children/wards under 25 years of age (as of September 1, 2024) of active members of local unions affiliated with the Waterloo Regional Labour Council.
  • Additional $1000 Scholarship Opportunity: One more $1000 scholarship may be awarded to an applicant meeting the above criteria or to an active member of a union based in Waterloo Region or their child/ward under 25 years of age (as of September 1, 2024) if not affiliated with the Waterloo Region Labour Council.

The Waterloo Regional Labour Council is thrilled to unveil its new scholarship program, aimed at supporting post-secondary students who are actively engaged in academic pursuits starting September 2024. This initiative reflects our commitment to empowering the next generation of leaders and fostering equitable access to education.

Selection Criteria:

  • A completed application form
  • An original essay, poster, or video submission (in either French or English) on the topic: “How belonging to a union household has improved life”
  • Submission of official documentation related to post-secondary admission or apprenticeship training

At the heart of our scholarship program lies a commitment to social justice and equity. Access to post-secondary education should be a universal right, not limited by financial barriers. As such, we proudly encourage applications from individuals representing diverse backgrounds, including women, people of color, Indigenous peoples, 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals, people with disabilities, and other equity-seeking communities.

Join us in making education more accessible and affordable for all. Apply for the Waterloo Regional Labour Council Scholarship and take the first step towards a brighter future. Together, let’s build a more inclusive and equitable society.
